Concentration 101: Pilates Equipment Certification

In this comprehensive course, professionals will learn to teach Pilates exercises on the equipment, including the Reformer, Cadillac/Trap Table, Wunda Chair, and Barrels. Students learn how to design workouts for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced client. Each exercise will be taught in its original version and with evolved modifications and variations that make it applicable to a wide spectrum of clients. Concentration 101 deepens the student’s understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, muscle recruitment, breathing techniques, postural evaluation, programming, cueing, and functional application of the Pilates method.

Weekly lessons and concepts include:

  • Breakdown of the classical and evolved Pilates exercises on all of the Pilates equipment
  • Equipment Use, Safety, and Maintenance
  • Postural Evaluation and Application
  • Addressing Muscular Imbalances
  • Joint Stabilization vs. Mobilization
  • Modifications and Variations
  • Injuries and Contraindications
  • Osteoporosis, Pregnancy, and Special Populations
  • Verbal and Tactile Cueing and Teaching Theory
  • Managing and Motivating Clients

Prerequisites:

  • Successful completion of Initiation 101
  • Minimum of 10 private Pilates sessions on the equipment
  • Comprehension of the required study materials

Course requirements:

    Lecture: presented over 3 weekend modules
    Observation: 48 Hours
    Self-Practice: 60 Hours
    Assistant Teaching: 75 Hours
    Homework: Homework includes reading books and materials, viewing videos, and completing assignments

Upon completion of the required hours, students receive a certificate of completion, with which they can begin working. Full certification exams are taken 9-12 months after completion of the course.

  • Weekend modules will meet:
    • March 5-6, 2011.  April 2-3, 2011.  April 30-May 1, 2011
    • Lecture hours: Saturday + Sunday 10am-5pm
  • Additional hours: apprentice teaching, observation, self-practice and homework to be scheduled and completed during a 10-12 week period beginning March 5, 2011
